Why is my rabbit shedding so much? i have a mini lop. he is a couple years old and recently has been shedding so much. his cage gets full of fur everyday. i brushed him and the amount of fur that came off of him was enormous. it could have made a new bunny. i never saw so much fur come off a rabbit and you can see it on his body..... Rabbits shed throughout the whole year, and it does seem pretty endless to me. you need extra care for him, grooming him at least once a day. rabbits are not able to vomit like cats do, so their loose hair they lick can cause blockage in their stomaches, and they will stop eating.. Why is my rabbit shedding so much? my rabbit is about a year and few months old. a few months ago he was shedding a bit and had a bald spot with the hair grown back. now he's shedding a lot more then before and the spot is clean and part greenish. is he molting or is this just normal?.
Rabbits will shed in different ways. some rabbits will take a couple of weeks or more to loose their old coat of fur. other rabbits will be ready to get rid of their old coats all in one day and these rabbits are the ones that cannot be neglected once they start shedding.. And, yes, some will shed to the point of bald spots. in most cases, this is because they've over groomed that spot to get rid of the excess fur. much like with a cat or a dog, the excess fur can become itchy, so the rabbit will try and get it off itself by licking or pulling it with their teeth.. Bean is in the middle of a typical rabbit shed, which often starts at the head of the rabbit, and you see the pattern going toward the back of the rabbit, as the hair is removed..
